Tomato Basil Scallop Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 8 large sea scallops

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or unsalted butter

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pouch Le Sauce & Co. Tomato Basil

  • Fresh basil, chopped

Directions

  1. Rinse the scallops under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are completely dry to ensure a good sear.

  2. Season both sides of the scallops with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  3. In a skillet (preferably cast iron or stainless steel), heat the olive oil or butter over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. If using butter, let it melt and bubble without browning.

  4. Carefully place the scallops in the pan, making sure not to overcrowd them (you may need to do this in batches). Sear for about 2-3 minutes without moving them, until a golden crust forms.

  5. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the scallops are opaque and firm to the touch. Avoid overcooking.

  6. While the scallops are searing, you can heat up your Tomato Basil by putting it in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds or heating it in a saucepan for 2-3 minutes on low-medium heat

  7. Remove the scallops from the pan and place on top of warmed Tomato Basil pasta sauce on a plate or a bowl

Tomato Basil Scallop Appetizer: A Gourmet Bite with Le Sauce & Co.

When you're looking to impress your guests with an appetizer that’s both elegant and easy to prepare, few dishes strike the balance quite like seared scallops. Add in the bold, fragrant flavors of our Tomato Basil Gourmet Pasta Sauce, and you’ve got a restaurant-worthy bite that’s ready in minutes. This Tomato Basil Scallop Appetizer is a refined yet approachable dish that brings coastal charm and gourmet flavor to your table.

Scallops are prized for their tender texture and sweet, delicate flavor. When seared properly, they develop a golden, caramelized crust on the outside while staying buttery-soft inside. This natural sweetness pairs beautifully with the vibrant, herbaceous notes of tomato and basil—especially when those flavors come from a thoughtfully crafted sauce like Le Sauce & Co.’s.

Le Sauce & Co.'s Tomato Basil Gourmet Pasta Sauce isn’t just for pasta. With its smooth texture, ripe tomato base, and infusion of fresh basil, it functions as a perfect foundation for seafood appetizers. The sauce delivers just the right balance of acidity and sweetness, cutting through the richness of the scallops while highlighting their natural flavor.

To prepare this appetizer, start by gently patting your scallops dry—this step is key to achieving that golden sear. Season with a touch of salt and pepper, then sear them in a hot skillet with a little olive oil or butter for about 1–2 minutes per side until they’re nicely browned and just cooked through.

While the scallops are resting, warm a few spoonfuls of Le Sauce & Co.'s Tomato Basil Sauce in a small saucepan. No need to add anything—it’s already packed with flavor and ready to go. For serving, place a dollop of the warmed sauce on a small plate or toasted crostini, then nestle the seared scallop on top. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf or a sprinkle of microgreens for a beautiful finishing touch.

These bite-sized appetizers are perfect for cocktail parties, holiday gatherings, or a romantic dinner at home. They look sophisticated, taste incredible, and come together in under 15 minutes. Plus, they showcase how a high-quality, ready-to-use sauce can make gourmet cooking effortless.

You can even get creative with presentation. Serve them on tasting spoons for a passed hors d'oeuvre vibe, or layer them over small polenta rounds or risotto cakes for a more substantial appetizer. However you plate them, the key element remains the rich, aromatic flavor of Le Sauce & Co.’s Tomato Basil Sauce—it brings everything together and elevates each bite.

Whether you're an experienced home chef or just getting started, this Tomato Basil Scallop Appetizer proves that delicious, impressive dishes don’t have to be complicated. With a handful of quality ingredients and a standout sauce, you can create something truly memorable. Serve these at your next gathering, and don’t be surprised when your guests ask for the recipe.
